Fluorouracil

Fluorouracil (/ˌflʊrˈjʊrəˌsɪl/)[1] or 5-FU (trademarked as Adrucil (IV), Carac (topical), Efudex and Efudix (topical)) is a drug that is a pyrimidine analog which is used in the treatment of cancer. It is a suicide inhibitor and works through irreversible inhibition ofthymidylate synthase. It belongs to the family of drugs called the antimetabolites.[2]
It is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines, a list of the most important medications needed in a basic health system.[3]
